Split Open and Melt

Image

My friend Brian and I went to Trillium Lake two evenings ago to photograph this amazing landscape. Neither of us expected so much ice to be on the lake but even without perfect reflections all the way through the water, the view did not disappoint!  The melting ice is probably a somewhat unique sight as most people come here to either snowshoe in winter or camp in the summer.  Pretty neat.

Hard to believe it’s been over two years since Kendra and I moved to Oregon. I remember our first few months like they were yesterday – the day captured above being no exception. It was a cold and windy day at Cannon Beach but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the remarkably beautiful scenery.

Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to come away with any great photographs when we rolled up on the beach. The sun was all but completely lost behind thick clouds and the light was pretty much as blah as it gets. We waited it out though and as sunset approached, everything changed. The clouds on the horizon dissipated, a bit of sunlight shone through and I had all the drama I needed for a spectacular photograph. The father and daughter walking along the beach near Haystack Rock makes it even better.

It was a great day.

For being such a cloudy day, I sure got lucky with this burst of sunshine on the marigold field. Talk about a magical moment! Sometimes things just work out.

Above the Dunes

Above the Dunes

Taken atop the sand dune cliffs along the Pacific Ocean in Montana de Oro State Park, this photograph recalls one of the most ridiculously beautiful sunsets I’ve seen.

Mail Storm

I had just finished setting up this shot when the postal truck rolled up and parked in front of the building at my right. I couldn’t believe my luck as it was the perfect visual anchor for the photograph. Here I thought the dramatic sky was holding all the aces.

My favorite time to be at Latourell Falls is winter as you pretty much have the whole place to yourself. It’s not as lush and green as the rest of the year but is still just as beautiful.
